as far as i know the e28 has the better of the two gearboxes. the e34's started using the piece 'o [email protected]#$ Getrag 280... mine has problems, like violently throwing itself out of first and second gear. the 280 has aluminium shift forks, asymeterical aluminium synchros, and they tend to chew themselves up from the inside out.

as far as the e28 gearbox goes, i know very little about it, though i would imagine that it has a slightly different gearset as this car weighed a littl less than the e34, and also had less power.

call meteric mechanic for the full low down on these two gearboxes. MM will not even rebuild a 280 anymore, i checked with them about it and they sell a modified 265 with a different gearset in it.
