Yes, I ran the wire under the carpet. as for speakers, I ran out of cash. as a college student, I decided to pay for books first!!
The trunk is sealed with steel. my understanding is this is a safty thing, I 've read post that go eithr way, to cut or not to cut; that 'tis the question. I will proble advoid that, out of lazyness more than anything else. I know sound waves do not travel through materals like steel very well. If You want to blast out the neigborhood, don't cut, if the sound is for you, the sound will have beter quality wirh a hole.
good luck

86 535i ran the wires down the middle of the car? Under carpet?? also what type of speaker set up do you have I've heard so much about our "sealed" trunks that supposedly the sound does not come thru very well?! suggestions, I thought about cutting a section out of the deck
I ran a wire for my amp through a hole behind the glove box. It was fairly easy to send it through then run the all the cables back the center of the car, where I sent them through the rear firewall behind the rear armrest. Running the line through the engine compartment was a snap; I just used nylon wire ties.
Good Luck
