Spontaneous Honking (archive)

This is a strange question, but my '85 535i is honking "at will", always when the engine is off and preferably in the middle of the night, but the sound is not quite like the actual horn sound (less loud and tends to change octaves). I haven't had this car all that long (got a good deal from my uncle), is there an alarm system that's malfunctioning, a short in the electrical system somewhere, or do I need to see my priest about an exorcism?
