It's been said that many of the short shifter kits tend to create a premature ending to one's transmission. The shifter is faster than God, whoops, BMW intended and crunches through important things like synchros... I'll shut up now, I don't know what I'm talking about. However, I have seen a tranny pulled apart and all the "nice" chew marks on the synchros from the short shift kits. Damn things sheer off whole bits at a time.
'87 535is - no short shift, same 'ol sloppy shifter. New bushings didn't do much.
'89 325is - perfect unadulturated garage queen
