Yup, that's right. Rt rear of my '86 535i was lower, (as that bushing was worse than left). Until I figured out exactly what the problem was, the car was banging when I would shift, tail end swerved at high speeds & the rear tires were being worn out by the day. Initially I thought it might be differential but friend jacked it up for me and figured it out. They are very difficult to remove without proper tool. My elbows were sprained after trying to cut the old severly worn bushings out. The sooner you take car of it, the easier they are to remove. Do both sides.

I have just discovered that my 535 sits about 1/4 inch lower on the drivers side rear. I know for a FACT that the LS subframe bushing is SHOT. Could this be the reason?
