528e and Turn Signal and cold--They don't work- (archive)

My '87 528e runs great--even in zero degree weather. However, as soon as the temp drops and the car is first started up--the turn signals and high beams do not function. When the car warms up--they work fine. What's the deal? Is their a common solenoid or relay that they all run off of?

Also, as soon as I turn on the lights, the CHECK comes on in the center in the dash and I have to acknowledge different error lights. They are usually the license plate light or the brake lights even though both are fine. Where is the most obvious place for a short?

One more electrical glitch---the warning light for the coolant level comes on after time or under semi-hard acceleration. Is this the sending unit or the sensor itself?

Thanks

Mike M.
