I had the same problem and it was the connector for the turn signal lights. The little rubber boot doesn't seal against the plastic light socket. My fix was to clean both connectors and the use some dielectric grease (not much) and then push them together. Use a plastic zip-tie (small one) to cinch the rubber boot to the plastic connector. BTW, don't get any of the grease between the rubber and plactic seal, otherwise it will just slip off. I took all of my turn signal lights out and examined tehm. Turns out they were all gunked-up and the boot was just flopping around on each. This allowed moisture to get in and short-out the connection.I performed the fix on all of them and all is great now. While you are at it, clean the lenses real well. You'd be surprised at how good they look afterwards. Let us know if this helped.

Hi guys, my '86 535i seems to be having some electrical problems. Every now and then the check light for the lights comes on but usually goes off the next time I start it. Sometimes its the tail light check light. A couple of days ago my blinker light was operating double time. I checked the right from turn signal light and side markers. Neither were working but the bulbs were okay. The next time I started it no problems. Ideas?
Thanks Terry
