Hello. Been investigating the fix for my '88 535i sloppy shifter. Does anyone know if the switch to an MZ3 shifter (that some e36 people seem to have done) works for the e28? If so, what's involved? Thanks,

Tim

Tim, I have one in my 87 535is. It cost about $100 to purchase and have installed. It cut shift throw down by about 1/3 and feels real good but it did nothing about the side to side slop which feels even greater with the shorter throw. As a cheap alternate to a short shift it's fine but if you want to cut out all slop then it's probably not the way to go. Shifting effort is no greater than stock although I had redline put in same time as installation. If you do it get a new shift knob that goes on this shifter, it feels great and really cleans up the look of the interior. Pete
