I went to open my hood and the plastic lever just shattered to pieces. I tried to use a pair of pliers to pull on the cable, but I couldn't pull it hard enough to open the hood. Has anyone ever encountered this and does anyone know where to get a new, preferable metal, lever? Or is this a dealer-only job? Thanks for any info.

the lever and the cable are sold as a unit. i repaired the lever on the bormann6 using stainless shelf brackets and 10/32 screws. it took an afternoon, but is still working 4yrs later.

I had the same problem, I found a replacement at the junk yard, just needed the latch and cable took about an hour to replace, there are only 2 bolts where the latch bracket is bolted in just under the dash. You may have to remove the left side of the dash under the steering wheel to access it.
