Mine broke in 2 pieces last Dec. 99; I thought about glueing them together but didn't know what kind of glue to use, so I just simply bought the replacement part from the dealer: it came with the lever, cable and sleeve assembly: $27.86; the part no. is: 51-23-868-556; easy too install.
I think the plastic handle portion was just too old; dried and became too brittle.

Note: I could still open the hood by pulling the hood release cable from under the dash with a pair of plier.

/3couldn't pull it hard enough to open the hood. Has anyone ever encountered this and does anyone know where to get a new, preferable metal, lever? Or is this a dealer-only job? Thanks for any info.

the lever and the cable are sold as a unit. i repaired the lever on the bormann6 using stainless shelf brackets and 102 screws. it took an afternoon, but is still working 4yrs later.
