i was told to replace the cylinder block, or even better change the engine. i considered an upgrade due to the following: 1. my engine is way underpowered. 2. i'm gonna change the engine anyways, so why not. 3. It would've been cheaper anyways, considering the 1.8l for the 5 series had to be imported from germany.
i opted not to go for the engine upgrade as i was worried about the overheating. car's been running back nowadays for more than a month. no more heating problems (fingers crossed...) and cost me about 6/7k (i lost count).
i appreciate my e28 nowadays more than my e34. sure the e34's more comfortable, more powerred, but the time and money i've spent on the e28 has increased the personal value.
probably off topic, but just my 2 cents worth.

Hi guys,
My M20 B20 engine has decided to start to blow smoke under load when it is cold. I am concerned that there may not be a lot of life left in the motor. I have done the ring around and found prices on rebuilt engines. They varied dramatically.
One BMW parts place suggested putting in a 2.3 Litre M20. I have no idea what this would do for fuel consumption and power. I would probably prefer to keep to the orignal 2.0 litre motor. Any Suggestions
