I have driven a Euro 535 in the northwest corner of MT, for the last 6 years, through some of the worst blizzards imaginable. The limited slip combined with 'good' snow tires makes the bimmer a great winter car. The best tires I have had were Toyo's with a steel stud in every cleat. Much better than the BF Goodrich that I have now. I have avoided the Blizzak due to reports that the hard rubber stud action deteriorates after the first year.
I have a Toyota 4 Runner sitting outside, and when the going really gets dicey, I go for the BMW. The much lower center of gravity improves the handling and the danger of flipping or rolling if you did get into an accident. I can tell you that second hand, as a good friend of mine lost his wife when their SUV flipped after hitting black ice in Nov. The Explorer slid sideways, and when it hit the side of the road went airborn and landed on its top killing her instantly. The highway patrolman at the scene told us that he would never purchase another SUV becuase he had seen too many deaths from this kind of accident.

Stick with your bimmer. The confidence in the slick stuff is second only to Audi. And who wants an Audi when the snow goes away!
