I just changed mine - here's what I know.
remove the sun visors and then the vinyl covered panel that runs along the top of the wind shield -- fairly easy. This exposes the sunroof motor. Remove the three bolts that hold it in place. It will drop down - let it hang by the wires or unplug them and set it aside. You should now be able to manually slide the sunroof forward or back as needed. to remove the sunroof, slide it open about half way. Take a putty knie or something thin and slide it between the vinyl panel of the sunroof that looks like the headliner and the metal part of the sunroof itself. there are six sping clips that hold the vinyl panel to the sun roof. Pry them open with the knife as close to the clips as you can. once all the clips are free, slide the vinyl panel back into the roof. This will expose the four sunroof mounting bolts that connect to the sliding track. If you remove these you can lift the roof panel off. This should adequately expose everthing you need to do your trouble shooting. I'd check the gear on the motor and the cables that set against it for wear. Installation is obviously the reverse.
