The major problem with with clear coat breakdown is dark colors always out in bright sunlight. The clear coat is broken down by the dark colors heating up under the clear coat and cooking back up through the clear. So, the answer is related to the color of the car (dark/light), and how you will store the car... garage, carport, car cover (soft)... anything to keep dark paints out of direct sunlight at much as possible. Rust.... keep the car washed, waxed and spray (rinse only) under wheel wells and rockers. I am NOT encouraging you to take it through car washes. These cars deserve hand washing, but you can't wash underneath, so spray (rinse only) underside is the only way to keep the salts off.
