Remove the steering column, and send the whole thing to the locksmith or try to remove the broken ignition key. You have to remove the lower steering cover (3 screws) and then remove 5 more screws that hold the steering column. It should take you about 15min-30 min to take it apart. No need to remove the steering wheel...
Good luck.

Last night when I started my 87 535is 3/4 of the key broke off in the ignition. The car started ok though so I thought no big deal - I'll get a new ignition cylinder and key.
This morning I tried to spin the cylinder and it didn't work. Worse than that, the steering lock didn't disengage so I won't be able(at least according to Bentley's) to remove the wheel and ignition cylinder.
Any tips?
Man I don't want to have to tow it to the dealer.
thanks
