The owner is looking for $5500 but is negotiable, I am thinking of offering about $4300. Does this seem reasonable? I am estimating a few hundred in repairs up front, although in the past 1.5 years, this car has seen just over $4000 in repairs, Including struts, shocks, calipers, discs, cat conv, exhaust, drive shaft, and a few minor repairs.

Thanks,
Adam

I am looking at a 1988 BMW 535ia (Canadian Model). Electrically, everything looks good, interior is in great shape other than a window leak in the back. Interior is cloth not leather, no power seats, although they are heated. The tail lamps aren't leaking, there is very little rust on the car, a little on the edges of the door, but not bad for this area and age. However, the fuel tank is leaking, alternator screeches when the lights are on and it sounds like theres a hole in the exhaust somewhere, it has 130,000 miles on it. I am taking it to have a compression test done on it by a local BMW mechanic, but I wanted to get a rough idea of what people think it is worth. What do you think it is worth in the current condition? and How much does the fuel tank cost to fix/replace/repair including labor?
