They do make a special puller for pilot bearings, but it is possibe to get them out without one with a little ingenuity. I have removed several by packing heavy grease behind the bearing with a syringe, then place a close fitting dowel rod(or similar tool) into the hole and hitting it hard with a hammer. The resulting hydraulic pressure inches the bearing out. It is quite messy though.Jon S.
Gang, what are the steps for replacing the pilot bearing? I can't find anything in Bentleys. Also, does pulling the pilot bearing require a bearing puller? I'm hoping to save another trip to the hardware store to spend my wife's hard earned money. Is it possible to rent one perhaps? Thanks for any help.
