The ticking if loud is probably the valves. I don't know if that would create a miss though. It makes noise because it is sloppy but wouldn't affect the sealing of the valve. You didn't mention your cap and rotor. If you havent looked there I would. Also the nature of the beast is a non perfect idle..almost like a high lift cam to a mild extent not too rough though.
