will make noise that sounds like loose valves. With the engine running, put a long bladed screw driver on the injector and the handle in your ear to determine if this is the noise you hear.

I have an 88 535i and I have what feels like a miss at idle. There is a "ticking" noise when you listen to the engine with the hood open that sounds like an exhaust leak, although I can't feel one. I took the car to a local BMW mechanic and he told me that the engine ticking and the miss are completely normal. I just have a hard time believing that that is normal for a BMW. The car seems to accelerate just fine, and it get about 19MPG under city driving. I have checked all of the plugs and they look great, the car blows no smoke and it does not use any oil. It seems to run fine. Can anybody tell me if what my car is doing is normal, and if it is not could you tell me what the problem might be. Thanks for the help.
