The head bolts stretch into place when you torque them. Even if I was putting the head on and say I made a mistake (not me!) after they were torqued, I replace them.
This engine lasts forever for a reason. I'm not sure if head bolts are the reason but why change anything.

I'm rebuilding the head on an '86 535i and was wondering what the consensus is regarding whether it's important to replace the head bolts on an M30 when re-installing.
