Hi, just catching up here on the boards as my lady is still sitting in Florida and I am now shipping her up in early June (I will have spent more money shipping the car this past year than I paid for it, LoL..... ah the follies of love.....) anyways, I have read numerous posts now about the location of the amp for the stereo and something is definitely odd in my car then, or perhaps I am confusing something else for my amp? When I bought the car, the stock unit was replaced with a lousy Aiwa tape player (But rather nice sounding Pioneer speakers were added with it, so I cant complain). Anyway, I immediately bought myself a Pioneer CD-player stereo and took out the Aiwa myself and simply tested the wires until I got the right speakers doing what they were supposed to (Not such a bright idea huh?) Now the speakers all work as they should, but I swear to you, while this has more power than the Aiwa, the Aiwa delivered considerably better sound. My neighbor works for Pioneer and explained to me that the Pioneer is a good stereo but is in truth really designed to work with an amp to get the right sound out of it. Thus my question, if I have the factory amp in my car, can I hook it up to the Pioneer and improve my sound or should I not bother because nothing positive to be gained? While the sound is good, I have heard better in my car and want that same level again, without buying a new amp or stereo. So, can it be done? If so, how? Obviously this beast was rewired for this regular stereo if that complicates matters I dont know.
As for the bizarre part, the location of the amp itself. I keep reading that it is located in the trunk under the seats on the drivers side. I swear to you my amp is on the passenger side. It's a tan plastic box attached to the rear deck and it is sort of shaped like a comma to fit around a curve in there (is that the amp?) the case does say BMW on it, so I know it's from the factory, it does not appear to be wired at anything and I am curious what the devil it is, and if it is the amp can I do anything with it?
P.S. - Dont know if this helps, but I do have the built in fader on my dash next to the stereo, although it is not currently wired to anything.

THanx in advance for any info. on this.
