Because that's what the factory did to the '88 M5s with the 16"x7-1/2", et20 wheels. I mimiced their (the factory) design on my 535is so I could get the '88 M5 wheels to fit my car. I took the car to a body shop, they trimmed the lip (about 3/8" at the top), ground it smooth, primered it and reundercoated it for $150. It looks like a factory job.

'85 M535i (rolled fender lip by the PO)
'88 535is (trimmed fender lip)

Why does an M5 e-28 use a 225-50-16 while
an E-28 535 of the same year(86-88) only able to accomodate
a 205-55-16......??
(535: rolling the rear lips is only way to go to a 225 without rubbing ) WHY ??
