I made one for my euro 635. It has Bosch L-Jetronic injection so my AFM is on the right side of the car. Really don't know how well it works, but it sure sounds nice. As for heat shielding, I didn't make any as the air filter is pushed all the way to the front of the car. Also, my headers are wrapped with heat shielding so I didn't think it would be that bad. I did remove the access panel for the headlights to get more air to the filter. As for the pipe, I got 2" ABS from the hardware store and put couplers on both ends to give it an OD @2.5". Then just bolt onto the air cleaner and the rubber elbow from the AFM. The AFM elbow is 3" on one end and 2.875" at the other. I have been searching for OD pipe @ 2.75" so that I can get even more air flowing, but haven't found any ABS in that size and the muffler shops would only sell me a 20' section of stainless. Damn, and I only need 9" of it. Maybe if there is a demand for it I'll make them and sell them to you guys. After all, what would I do with 19' of stainless pipe.

just wondering if anyone has tried making their own CAI like the imports have all over...just wondering :) found a websight that said how to make one for a del sol http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~etang/Making%20Your%20Own%20AEM-Style%20Cold%20Air%20Intake.htm and wonder if it could be done w/ a 533i :)
