wants a daily beater. He doesnt like my slow
528e and probably needs a 535i with 5speed. His
handle is Speed and scare hell out of me.

No, actually unless he bought the Z3, you have a Z3 that you let your son use as if he had bought it. And now he wants you to buy yet another car to drive in addition to the Z3. Interesting, a young man that has yet to leave home has unlimited, exclusive access to two cars at apparently your expense.

My father never had a car payment in my lifetime, so money wasn't the issue, but when the time arrived that I might be interested in having a car, he bought me a 1949 Packard Hearse (in 1962) which I used to drive to high school the next year when I got my license to drive. It was the most unusual car in the lot, needless to say, 156 inch wheel base and handle like s**t. It was industrial strength fun, and every woman I knew wanted to ride in it, which I obliged as much as I could.

I had to maintain it.

My advise; sell the Z3 and buy him a late '80's 528e and help him learn how it works. Take it to BMWCCA driving schools and/or track days and let him really learn how to make it handle. When he's achieved all that is attainable from a 528e, he'll be safer with something with more "oats".
