I've done it many times without any problems. Other people have had trouble immediately restarting their cars afterwards though. This is most likely due to moisture inside the dist. cap-remove and dry-it'll start.

I have used both Simple Green, and Citrus Miracle, found at Home Depot. Both work well and are less expensive than the spray on engine degreasers.

These soaps work better on a warm engine. Get a plant sprayer, or better yet a pressure bottle used for fertilizer or insectecides; they work the best! Spray on and let soak for a few minutes. To do a good job use a soft scrub brush to loosen any built up tough spots.

Avoid blasting the foam sound deadener, under the hood, at close range-it'll tear it up. Blast it from farther away-it'll clean nicely without destroying it.
