I'll let you know how I get on....If doesn't work I'll try Zack's method but I'm gonna do it VERY slowly (like bit by bit over a few weeks!....I think the risk is one could get bored trying to do it in one go and then end up getting stripper everywhere!.....shudder....lol).

just thinking bout the question and relized this...

I have this wood bench I made back in HS wood shop...real sturdy and all...and laqured...the other day my wife was doing her nails (nail polish and girly $hit) i guess she "accadently" spilled a bit of the nail polish remover on the bench...it's got a big circle where she did it...so you may just try some nail polish remover...may work who knows.
