I'm pondering replacing my stock oil pump with the metric mechanic modified one while R&R the piston rings.
Thoughts?

My son and I just got done rebuiding a 3.5 and I would definitely recommend replacing the oil pump along with the front drive chain and sprockets. A BMW stock pump, FEBI, will give you all the oil pressure you need. Use the extra money and do the timing chain and sprockets while you're at it.

Good Luck,

Tom and Nathan in PA
