The M5 has a Getrag 280 with a 0.81 overdrive 5th gear. The differential is a 3.91:1. Multiply 0.81 by 3.91 and you get 3.167.

The close ratio transmission has a 1.00 5th gear. So, you would need a 3.167 differential to get the same reduction as the M5 setup. So, with a close ratio transmission, you will need a numerically lower rear differential, like a 3.07 or a 3.24.

I hear there are only cetain type of diff you can use with these. So what do you like and not like about them. How does this one differ from the tranny in the 535i and the M5's.
