Has anyone tried replacing the original fuse boxes on these old 5 series cars with a more modern fuse box? I know Ed Teller has an article on his site discussing adding an auxilary box, but I'd like to replace the whole thing instead.

1 originally thought about that, but after opening it up and looking in there i decided to
use a version of ed's--i didn't replace the main wires with heavy gage wire-- been about a year and know problems. 84 533i auto wass melted really bad and 84 533i 5sp was just starting to melt.
my 87 535i hasn't had any problems yet but if it does,i would do the same thing--andy

i too used EdT's tech to stop the burning 13 and 14 fuses on swarz, bormann6 needs it now also. ive heard of the e-24 6er f/box being used as an update.it uses the ato type fuses. this time i'll do a more minimalist treatment using spliced in fuse holders :)
