Hood refuses to open... (archive)

I already know the trick with the grilles and using a long screwdriver to open the hood, but how in the hell do you get the clips on the tops of the grilles out without opening the hood? I can't get to them with any of the screwdrivers that I own or have borrowed. Any help would be cool.
