My 533i came with a 3.25 non-limited slip. I upgraded to a 3.46:1 LSD. When I did so, I had to replace the rear cover, so you may not be able to tell easily off the numbers.

What are some easy ways to tell if your car has a limited slip diff? Part number on case?

What is the prefered ratio for a 533i with minor intake and exhaust mods?

Most diffs have a metal tag attached to one of the bolts on the rear, giving it's ratio and if LSD.The other easy method is to jack up the rear and turn one rear wheel; if the other turns in the same direction it's an LSD.

The most popular ratio change for the 533i is to upgrade from it's 2.93 ratio to a 3.25LSD.You CAN go as low as a 3.73 ratio, but I would suggest it only if you've added a chip raising the rpm limit to 6500rpm+,otherwise the gearing is too short for daily driving.
