I had to do the same thing recently. The drivers' side released but not the passenger. I had to ever so gently pry the hood up by hand and placed a tapered wooden block under it to hold it up just enough to get those clips out - two on each side.
If you have a long drill bit approx 1/8" diameter, you can drill out the center pin of the clips which are plastic and pull the grills out.
