1. Fuse 6. If your power mirrors work this fuse is fine.
2. The breaker switch next to the steering column. NOTE: If any work has been done under the dash, this breaker was probably unplugged so the driver's kick panel could be removed. If it was not reconnected when the kick panel was reinstalled, your power windows won't work.
3. The power window relay is located in the relay panel above the kick panel, near the hood release lever. It's the same kind of relay as your fuel pump and O2 sensor relays (on my '86 535i, anyway), so you can do a temporary swap and test.If you have a multimeter handy, you can test the relay socket with the relay removed.
-The big red wire should be 12V always. (I think it's unfused.)
-The big red/green wire should have continuity with the big red/green wire at the power window breaker.
-The skinny brown wire should be ground always.
-The skinny white/green wire should be at 12V when the ignition is on. (This is the wire that comes from fuse 6).
-While you're down there, the breaker switch should have continuity.
I have a 1984 528e and none of the windows will work. The main switches have been replaced within the last two years, as well as the switch near the steering column. The fuse is ok also. I can't locate any information on this problem. Any suggestions?
