I have an opinion on this issue having just replaced a lot of exhaust parts on my 86 528e. I have a new Cat, OEM muffler and a chrome tip. First, make sure you install new gaskets and copper nuts and tighten so they do not leak. Next, install the chrome tip because it does make a difference. Finally, I placed a layer of cardboard in my trunk to help muffle the sound a bit more. (these are all tips that I picked up on this board) I consider the sound to be sweet and strong, especially 3-4K RPM!!

I recently purchased a 1988 528e BMW. I need some advice, Is is Normal to Hear the Muffler On these Cars? I noticed it has 2 (two) Exhausts not one like I have noticed on other Cars.As Soon as I excelerate the Interior Of the Car Becomes really loud, once The Car goes into higher gear it Lessons. My car is An Automatic Engine.Thank you in advance for your knowledge in this matter, Jodi
