All good questions, first about the idle, it does idle better during warm up, but once in operating range, always 1100-1200.
Second, I've just seen everybody else blanking their's, so I figured there must be a good reason, so I did to. I don't think I'm paranoid. At least I hope not, could I be paranoid about being paranoid? Although thinking about it, I stay pretty close to the speed limit most of the time so I'm not worried about the law, and like you said, you see 1000's of plates everyday, no good reason other than everybody else seems to.

Okay, so I don't post often enough for everybody to know all details, so. . . Good news, I cured the stalling while engine cold problem I've had for 4 years by using carb cleaner on the ICV.(nasty). Anyway cured the stalling problem, but now I Idle at around 1100 to 1250 rpm. I've seen some stuff about a small screw on the ICV to make very minor adjustments to the Idle, but if anyone has any other ideas for getting idle down to 750-900 I would appreciate it. Link is pics of my 83 533i
