Yes, as long as you get one made for an '88, which is what I was trying to say. You can'y easily use one for the '87 or earlier models.
The parts I installed are made by Ansa and are oem style, not their sport muffler. I've read both good and bad about Ansa, but they are reasonably priced. Originally, I was only going to replace thye center resonator, which is another reason I ordered ans, they sell seperate components. I ended up replacing the whole thing though.

Good luck,
Howard

Jodi,
Just replaced mine with oem style muffler. Quiet as a mouse. What kind of muffler system is on your car?

The dual system was only on the '88 528e. The earlier 528e system will not fit unless you change everything from the manifold back, possibly even the manifold (not sure).

Howard, Mine is a 1988 528E, and it does have the dual muffler system you just mentioned. Not at all familiar with the BMW's are you saying I can change mine to the OEM as you did or Not? Thank you so much for your time. Jodi
