Lost on OBC details....Help!!! (archive)

I want to retrofit an OBC to my Euro 85 525I automatic. In fact, I already purchased a set from a 82-83 6-series. It's the OBCI with the seperate brain and the little LED's next to the buttons. I've been searching every possible source to find out details about the several types of OBC systems used over the years, but although I've read there's plenty of info to be found about the subject, I couldn't find the exact differences. Also they say the Bentley is detailed about this. Well, I have the Bentley myself, but the part of the OBC isn't detailed at all. It seems the text and the included wiring diagram only are about the OBCII, which has the brain built in.

So again, no details about the differences of the OBC systems used from 82 to 88.

It's slowly dawning on me that I might have bought the wrong system. I realize that I need another code-plug no matter what, but will the 83 system work in my car, or do I really need the OBCII?

Any comments and thoughts are greatly appreciated, as I'm trying to find out what's what for a long time now....
