Some of the fan blades were very blunt on the ends, and some of them have the end tapered at about a 60 degree angle. Aside from the chipped areas making noise, I think the tapered tips, which were on the fan I used for replacement are quieter. I seem to remember that shape of the fan tips is reminiscent of some of the solutions used to quiet the noise of rotors on helicopters.
