You probably noticed that the intake ports on the M30B35 (E34 version) head do not line up well with the M30B34 intake manifold runner ports. That alone may cause a loss of some of the power you were trying to gain by using the newer head.

Also, the flow is different between the two heads and therefore the fuel map is certainly different which is another problem that you may have using the M30B34 DME--especially when the motor runs above 3k-4k and the DME relies more heavily on the pre-programmed fuel/advance map, and the AFM is completely out of the picture.

IMO, the head upgrade is indeed a good one, but using the B34 DME is questionable. The big PITA with the DME upgrade is the B35 harness isn't long enough to reach into the glove box on an E28 (remember the E34 DME box is located in the engine compartment).

So if you are going to use the new head, do it right also get the manifold and the DME.

Good luck,
Bob K.

i want to put an e34 head on my e28 M30 block, but i do not want to change the ECU/harness.
can this be done?
and if it even can be done, is it worth doing the head and intake manifold swap from an e34 without doing the ECU/Harness upgreade?
