My 84 w/ non-theft radio has same prob. My radio literature came with two L-wrench looking tools, essentially an L-shaped bent piece of wire about 75 thousanths diameter (a little larger than 1/16"). Short side is 1.5", long side is 4".

On the radio face there are two holes, one on right, one on left. Insert 4" end of wires, deflecting spring steel clamps on either side of radio, insert fingers into tape deck and carefully pull unit straight out.

Sorry nobody responded to you sooner... you must be Catholic!!

Email me if you want me to fax you directions from the radio owners manual or these exact wire dimensions.

Tom

I'd like to yank the radio out of my daughter's 1985 535i so that I can check the solder connections (scratchy volume control and driver's side speakers go on and off).

Do I have to remove the center console first?

This is not the anit-theft radio so I do not have any obvious hidden flaps on the front of the radio that would imply access. Thanks in advance for any help that is offered.
