Bought 3.73 LSD today and need advice. (archive)

I was little irrational today while at the salvage yard. I happened to peak under the rear end of a '90 325i (with about 77K miles)and found a 3.73 LSD. I bought it on the spot for $150 bucks and now have it sitting in my garage awaiting new seals. My question regards the way in which I should prepare the diff for installation in my 535is. Although the diff looks OK externally, it had been sitting for quite some time. I'd like to make sure I get any crud inside cleaned up. I'm not real keen about overhauling anything, I'd just like minimize my chances of problems down the road by following some good maintenance protocols.

What advice/steps can you folks offer to get me started? I can handle just about anything mechanical since I turned a wrench for a living a lot of years ago. So with a little bit of coaching I can perfume this pig and get things moving along.
