I'm thinking a can of Brake Clean will flush the innards out pretty well. Do you think that's a good idea? If not, maybe Simple Green and then compressed air to dry it all out. I'm probably being a little to compulsive about this clean thing, but I'm kind of in that mode since I'm rebuilding my tii motor right now. My garage is akin to a microchip clean-room. However, it won't stay that way for long.

Yeah Dana, I felt bad about that 150 bucks, for about 2 nanoseconds. Then I got home and the wife says, "What the Hell is that? Then I start to feel REAL bad again. Actually, she's very understanding and tolerant. She likes to sit in the garage and talk while I work on the cars. My sons are getting into working (and driving) our Bimmers, so it it's pretty cool to bring home a new toy and have the whole family want to get involved.

Oh, speaking of a new toy. I will be bringing home another 535is later this month. It will belong to one of my twin sons and man is he pumped. It's a CA car that's been maintained by Dinan and looks just like the one Tim in Eastern PA is selling. Geez, I love that Delphin Grey. Real stealthy looking! Anyway, once we get it home, I'll post some pics of the dueling 535is'.

Thanks for the help!

Dave

I was little irrational today while at the salvage yard. I happened to peak under the rear end of a '90 325i (with about 77K miles)and found a 3.73 LSD. I bought it on the spot for $150 bucks and now have it sitting in my garage awaiting new seals. My question regards the way in which I should prepare the diff for installation in my 535is. Although the diff looks OK externally, it had been sitting for quite some time. I'd like to make sure I get any crud inside cleaned up. I'm not real keen about overhauling anything, I'd just like minimize my chances of problems down the road by following some good maintenance protocols.

What advice/steps can you folks offer to get me started? I can handle just about anything mechanical since I turned a wrench for a living a lot of years ago. So with a little bit of coaching I can perfume this pig and get things moving along.

TIA!
