As my postings alude, I was a little worried about cleaning the diff before installation in my 5er. After all, the diff probaly sat in God-Knows-What kind of conditions for some time without moving.
After a little thought, I've spent the afternoon with my new rear end (yeah, the wife said something about bringing home strange...well, you know) and I couldn't be happier. I gave it an oil bath in Marvel Mystery Oil. In fact, I flushed a lot of crap out of it. Filled it and then cranked away for about 15 minutes on the input shaft with a 1/4" socket so as to get all the parts moving, rested for 5, cranked another 15 minutes, rested for 5 and then cranked for another 15 and then drained. Did that three times. The first drain was UUUUGGLLY. It got better from there. The last drain looked really good. I checked the residue all three times and nothing to be alarmed about. I then opened the cover and geez does it look good.
Thanks to Fimum Fit for his advice on not using a degreaser. Probaly saved my but (not to mention my new rear-end). The folks on this board really come thru! The Marvel Mystery Oil really did the trick though.
Thanks to All for the help!

Which salvage yard did you pick it up at? I'm in Wylie (east of Plano and north of Sachse) Did you notice any others?
