that's just what I did... bought an 86 325e enginr from an enthusiast about an hour's drive away. I payed $125 (he wanted it out of his garage without shipping it) and then I sold the pan off it for $100... not a bad deal for $25. My car has 226k on it and I'm installing a new clutch today/tomorrow.

my car burns a little oil on the high RPM shifts, I think the valve seals are about to go. it uses about 1/2 quart of oil every 3k miles too. If you're not burning any oil yet, I'd think you have time left... look around, I'm sure you could find a great deal on an engine


preferably with less than 175,000 miles and in decent shape.
Just in case mine blows in the next few months. I've got
227k and it doesnt burn any oil and sounds good. no smoke,
either. What should i expect to pay for a good used engine?
