Bob, I've been researching the replacement of my SI board recently and I came across several postings which mention similar tach behavior. It may well be that some of the solder joints on your board have cracks that cause intermitent (sp?) problems like that. Do a search on the archives for "SI board tachometer" and see what you come up with. It could be that your SI batteries also need replacing. I'll look in my archives as well and see if I saved some of this info.

Sometimes my tach is fine. Sometimes it sits at 0 rpm until I pass 40 mph, then it jumps to 5-6000 rpm. Then it stays high a while, and drops back to 0 when I slow down again.

Is this just a matter of cleaning all the contacts on the instrument cluster, or is something well-known and even more evil afoot?
