80 C = 176 F, 71 C = 160 F. With the factory 80 C thermo the temp guage should be about 1/2 not 3/4. A properly working thermo only sets the minimum temp because once fully open the effectiveness of the cooling system itself sets the upper limit i.e. a 71 C thermo with a clogged radiator = overheat.
