My '86 535i was the same when I bought it used. No IS lights even during startup. It turned out the light module was missing. I'm guessing the previous owner didn't know how to turn off the lights, and removed the module as an expediency. I replaced the module and discovered the batteries were bad. But at least the lights went on.

I live in NZ and have an 86 520i. Since ive had it neither the check light or service Indicator lights have come on even at ignition.

So is it likely to be the batteries.or the SI board or can anyone else suggest anything. BTW this car doesnt have a computer with a display . The only light is a check light.

Please Help
