I just replaced the drive shaft on my auto trans so I have no experience with the big rubber guibo. However, you should have no latteral play on the U-joints. My new one turned freely on the pivots with no slop in the joints. The old one had many problems, I won't bore you with my PITA scenerio but the drive shaft I installed was from a good scrap yard and A new center bearing installed. I have the smallest vibration from 19-21mph, indecenable to anyone except those familiar with these cars or a really attuned driver. Any way, easy pivot points, no joint slop. Joint slop is worn bearings.
