Did you tighten the flex disc completely first before fastening the center bearing?
Then when you fastened the center carrier bearing to the chassis did you have to push up the driveline with any effort? If you did then I would say "no, not possible" to your question.
At higher speeds the shaft should center out on it's own. This was evidenced when my entire center bearing shredded. At anything over 10 mph it felt fine. Starting from a dead stop felt like someone was beating the hell out of the floorboard, once 10-15mph was reached it became perfectly (nearly) smooth.
Do the shim trick, it's cheap and fast to try.
Use as many shims as you can and still have threads left on the snubbers to tighten to the trans mount.
Conversely, you can try shimming the center bearing to a lower position.
