Yes. Have it steamed cleaned or bead blasted and then powder coated. This is the best way to prevent the paint from flaking or peeling off in the future plus it will resist most spilled fluids. Mine is black with the raised portions, like the horizontal fins and the BMW logo, polished out in the original silver aluminum finish. It will really compliment a clean and neat engine compartment.

I'm planning a valve adjustment, and since I'll have the valve cover off, I was thinking about cleaning it up. It has the crusty cosmoline look, and makes the entire engine look bad. Has anybody tried paint, polish, etc? Your results?
